Global Logistics

China lanes into the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Prepaid duty only where that carrier actually covers the country.

Each market taxes a small parcel differently. ETdropship prices the lane after duty and tax, and moves a repeat SKU into a local warehouse only when that beats another direct parcel.

Destination rules agents actually use

US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, New Zealand

These are the markets most China dropshipping stores ship into. The amounts are the public rules as of November 2026, not a rate quote. Carrier brokerage sits on top of every figure below.

United States

The USD 800 duty-free release is closed. CBP ended it for China and Hong Kong on 2 May 2025 and for every origin on 29 August 2025. Commercial parcels need an informal or formal entry and pay the tariff. China-origin goods can also owe Section 301 duty. Postal low-value mail uses a mail informal entry from 24 July 2026. Congress repealed the commercial exemption from 1 July 2027.

Call a lane prepaid only when the carrier files the entry and bills the duty to the account. A SKU that repeats belongs in a US warehouse after one inbound, not on a new airbill every day. Do not cut the declared value to imitate the old USD 800 rule.

United Kingdom

At £135 or under, the seller or the marketplace charges UK VAT at checkout, and customs duty is generally not due. Above £135 the carrier usually collects import VAT and duty. The government will remove that duty relief by October 2028 at the latest. It still applies. Northern Ireland is not the same as Great Britain for goods from outside the UK and the EU.

Keep a test basket at or under £135 when the product allows it, with VAT in the price. Do not split one order into fake parcels to stay under the line. Repeat winners can sit in a UK node so the last mile is domestic.

European Union

From 1 July 2026, €3 customs duty per declaration line on distance sales up to €150. From 1 November 2026, a €2 handling fee per line on distance sales of any value. Five identical units on one line are one charge, not five. IOSS collects the VAT. It does not pay the €3 or the €2.

Count lines before dispatch. Call the lane prepaid only if that carrier advances both amounts for that country. The worked examples are in the EU section below.

Canada

By mail, or by courier that does not come from the United States or Mexico, duty and GST/HST apply above CAD 20. Courier from the US or Mexico is duty-free up to CAD 150, and tax-free only up to CAD 40. CBSA gives the higher band only if the goods entered US or Mexican commerce. A box that only passes through the US stays on the CAD 20 rule.

Canadian orders for a proven SKU are often cheaper from US stock that has already cleared into the US, because duty drops inside CAD 150. GST/HST still applies above CAD 40. A direct China parcel should be quoted with duty, tax and the courier disbursement, or sold prepaid.

Australia

Most goods with a customs value of A$1,000 or less pay no customs duty and no GST at the border. Alcohol and tobacco are the exception. GST at 10% is collected at checkout once the seller or marketplace passes the A$75,000 registration line. One box over A$1,000 is cleared at the border, with duty, GST and an import processing charge.

Ship each consumer order as its own consignment under A$1,000. Once you must register, put GST in the price and the GST-paid reference on the paperwork so the border does not charge it twice. Do not merge several orders into one box that crosses A$1,000.

New Zealand

Customs does not collect duty or GST at the border at NZ$1,000 or under, except alcohol and tobacco. Parcels from the same supplier arriving the same day can be treated as one shipment. Registered sellers charge 15% GST at sale on goods of NZ$1,000 or less. Registration starts at NZ$60,000 of supplies to NZ consumers. Over NZ$1,000, duty and GST are charged at the border.

Same operating rule as Australia: separate consignments under the line, GST in the checkout when registration applies, and a local node only after the SKU repeats. Stock already in New Zealand is a domestic sale, not a low-value import.

Merchant summary, not legal or tax advice. Lists and rates change. Confirm the live lane before the checkout promises “no extra charges”.

Lower fulfillment cost

Where the cost actually comes out

The duty rules changed. The levers an agent still controls are which country clears the goods, how many times you pay international freight, and whether the buyer is the one who receives the bill.

  • Price the ad after duty

Landed cost is product, pack, freight, duty, tax and brokerage. A postal rate that looks cheap and then collects at the door loses the order and the freight.

  • Use a threshold only on a real consignment

Australia and New Zealand change at 1,000. The UK changes at £135. The EU charges per declaration line. Canada direct from China has almost no relief above CAD 20. Do not split or merge orders to invent a cheaper band.

  • Import the winner once

When a SKU repeats, one wholesale inbound into a partner warehouse in the US, UK, Germany, France or Canada, then a domestic parcel, usually beats another China airbill. Storage has to beat that airbill or the stock stays in Guangzhou. Long-tail SKUs stay direct.

  • Cut billable weight before you cut the carrier

You pay the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. A mailer with no second box is a saving that does not depend on the next customs notice.

  • Keep returns in the destination

A return to China is a second international leg. In the EU the €2 handling fee is not refunded, so the return can cost more than the duty you hoped to recover.

  • One contracted lane per country

Five half-used products cost more than one lane at a weekly volume. Move off the public rate card once that country has a steady count, and label it prepaid only when the carrier’s country list says the duty is advanced.

EU import policy — 2026

€3 customs duty & €2 Union handling fee (distance sales)

From 1 July 2026 the EU removed the €150 customs-duty relief on most distance sales. Two charges now sit beside IOSS VAT. Under Commission guidance (October 2026), an item is goods that share the same tariff code, description and origin. National declaration systems charge €3 and €2 per declaration line, not per piece—five identical units on one line are still one item.

From 1 July 2026

€3 temporary customs duty (consignments up to €150)

Council Regulation (EU) 2026/382 sets a flat €3 customs duty per item on distance-sale consignments with intrinsic value up to €150. It runs until 1 July 2028, then normal tariff rates apply. It is not VAT and is not paid through the IOSS return.

From 1 November 2026

€2 Union handling fee (UHF) — all distance-sale lines

The Union handling fee is €2 per item on distance sales of any value, including consignments above €150. Commission guidance of 5 October 2026 says the fee is not time-limited and not refundable, including when the buyer returns the goods.

From 1 July 2028

Customs warehouse for distance sales (lower UHF path)

The new Union Customs Code provides for customs warehouses for distance sales, with a lower handling-fee path once that model is operating (aimed at 2028). It is not a lane you can book today. Until then, repeat SKUs can still move as a normal bulk import into a partner EU warehouse, which is a different declaration from a single China parcel.

Merchant summary, not legal or tax advice. Based on European Commission guidance of 5 October 2026 and the VAT e-commerce addendum of 6 October 2026. Carrier coverage and national declaration systems differ. Confirm with your IOSS intermediary before you lock checkout prices.

How €3 + €2 affects a low-value EU order

Worked example for a China-to-EU distance sale, intrinsic value ≤ €150, after 1 November 2026. Same product on one declaration line counts once. A different product, or the same code with a different origin, is another line.

Order composition€3 duty€2 UHF (from Nov 2026)Extra import charges
5× same T-shirt (one declaration line)€3€2€5 + VAT (IOSS)
1× T-shirt + 1× watch (two lines)€6€4€10 + VAT
3 different product types (three lines)€9€6€15 + VAT

Above €150: no temporary €3 duty. The €2 UHF still applies per line on a distance sale, plus normal customs duty by tariff. IOSS does not cover that consignment.

How ETdropship reduces customs surprises

There is no tax-free EU parcel. We only call a lane prepaid when the carrier advances duty and the handling fee for that country, and the checkout copy matches the label.

  • DDP / Prepaid

Delivered Duty Paid courier & postal lanes

A lane is DDP for this reform only if the product advances €3 and €2 for that Member State and invoices them to the account. Postal prepaid duty does not cover every EU country. If a destination is missing, we do not let the store promise “no extra charges”.

  • IOSS

IOSS-aligned data & VAT at checkout

We pass your IOSS number and the store value on eligible orders up to €150. VAT stays on your IOSS return. Duty and the UHF are a separate customs debt on the declaration. Orders over €150 leave the IOSS path.

  • Lane mix

    Dedicated EU lines + YunExpress / Yanwen / 4PX

We match SKU weight and destination to contracted lines—standard postal, commercial express, and economy—informed by daily EU delivery performance and customs acceptance rates.

  • EU / UK buffer

Partner warehouses in DE, FR, UK, US, CA

For repeat winners, in-region stock can shorten last mile and change the customs event (bulk import vs. single CN parcel). We coordinate inbound to partner 3PLs when storage economics beat direct small parcels.

  • Data quality

    Declaration line optimisation

Five units of one SKU on one line are one item. A second product is another €3 and another €2. We count lines from the order before dispatch instead of merging a shirt and a watch to save the fee.

  • Ops

    Split shipments & bundle rules

Mixed carts are where margin disappears. With your account manager we either split dispatch, or move a proven SKU into EU buffer stock after a proper bulk import. We do not invent a single customs line for unrelated products.

Compliance checklist (EU distance sales)

  • Correct HS / CN code and country of origin on every line item
  • IOSS (or marketplace-deemed seller) VAT displayed and remitted separately from customs duty/UHF
  • Checkout copy that explains import charges when DDU lanes are used—no hidden fees
  • GPSR, CE, and labeling rules still apply to physical goods regardless of parcel value
